Silokarchiv — Austrian Silo Archive
An interactive taxonomic archive of Austrian grain silos, classifying hundreds of structures across region, ownership, architecture typology, dimensions, construction period, and image content — with a dynamic slideshow that recomposes itself on every filter change.
A web-based archive documenting grain silos across Austria — industrial monuments of agricultural infrastructure, largely overlooked as architectural objects. Each silo is catalogued with photographic documentation alongside a rich taxonomy: geographic region and postal code, owner and operator, construction year (spanning 1816–1991), physical dimensions, silo typology (rendered as abstract architectural silhouettes), and granular image content tags ranging from "Panorama" and "Landmark" to "Vögel" (birds) and "Schatten" (shadows).
The archive's central interaction — designed by Ioan Cernei — is a dynamic slideshow engine that recomposes its image sequence every time the visitor shifts filter focus. Rather than static search results, the archive feels alive: each new filter combination produces a new visual rhythm through the collection.
Ioan Cernei was responsible for interaction design, slideshow interaction architecture, and system architecture. Built circa 2015.
